NATASHA: Hi Lucy! Thank you for the interview. Can you tell our readers about yourself and how
you got started as a writer?
LUCY: Hi Natasha, thanks for having me.I am a mum of two and a Nana to a beautiful 4-month-old baby girl. I class Remi, my Chihuahua as my third child, but don’t tell my my kids that. I work in the council sector helping people from all types of backgrounds. This is my first interview for my books and I am a little nervous, so please forgive any blabbering nonsense.
I have always loved to write and read, I guess most writers would say the same. One of my favourite writers as a kid was Elyne Mitchell’s The Silver Brumbies series, basically, it was about talking wild horses.
I was never into all the normal stuff kids read or watched on tv. I loved Sci fi, westerns, paranormal and anything to do with talking animals. I wasn’t keen on Walt Disney cartoons at all (sorry all you disney lovers).
I didn’t write for a long time after I had kids, then I caught the bug again about six years back. I had an idea for an apocalyptic romance story and I knew I wanted to be around likeminded people so I joined the Romance Writers of New Zealand. What an amazing bunch of ladies and now a gentleman.
I then started to read erotica and loved it, so this year I made the decision to give it a go and here I am.
NATASHA: How would you describe your style of writing? And what can readers expect from your stories.
LUCY: I have playful mind, so there is definitely humor threaded throughout my books. I try to be serious in some of the stories, but I just can’t help myself, it sneaks in.
I think it is because I am a true believer that if you can laugh and keep a sense of humor, you can get through the toughest of times.
I do have a darker writing side, but it tends to come out more in my novel.
I want readers to be entertained. I write about monster sex with Bigfoot, but it is done in a very tongue and cheek way, and not meant to be serious at all.
I love hard-core erotica, but I also love to have a story with my sex and I think that is where my books fit in.
NATASHA: When it comes to writing, do you have a certain routine or writing process that allows the ideas to flow better? Where do you get your ideas for your stories?
LUCY: My routine varies at the moment with a four-month-old baby in the house (my daughter lives with me) and work commitments. So I decided to do what every insane writer does, and I start writing early hours of the morning. My day starts at 5am. It was really hard to start with, but I am now enjoying the quiet time and it is very productive for writing.
I always have a pen and paper handy for ideas (I have a large box of ideas), my best ideas come at night when I am in bed. I can write up to twelve pages a night, it drives me crazy because I can’t sleep until it’s out of my head.I have become so use to writing at night I don’t even need to turn the lights on now, I just feel with my fingers where the last indents are on the page and start there. I will admit it is not alway legible in the morning but I decipher most of it.
NATASHA: What is the most challenging part of writing erotic stories? And how many stories have you written so far?
LUCY: Oh, writing the sex! Sometimes it flows really easy, and other times it can be a bitch. You want it to read fluidly and for people to connect and not have it sounding like a robot. I quite often have people ask me do I get turned on when writing sex. For me that would be a no, especially when you are first starting the scene, I am so focused on wanting it to be perfect it kind of takes the fun out. Later on, I will go back and read them and go “okay, thats pretty good,” or I start to blush thinking how naughty some of my scenes are becoming.
I know I am still in the early stages of my erotica career and I have alot to learn, but I am very excited to be finally on this journey.
NATASHA: Let’s talk about “Bound To Her Billionaire.” The name is very intriguing and I love the book cover. Can you talk about how you came up with the title and a little about the story?
LUCY: Thanks Natasha, I love the cover too. I am very lucky to have my friend Mike Beck help me with my covers. Learning photoshop is on my list of things to do.
The story came to me after watching Devious Maids the tv show, the lying, cheating and stealing are great ideas for stories. So, I thought what would your billionaire boss do if you were caught stealing from him, if it was only a small amount? It would not be worth going to court over, so he would use it to his advantage one way or another.
I was cringing when I was writing this story, especially when Mary Ellen got caught, it was horrible situation for her to be in. Mr Vance the billionaire, then blackmails her into meeting him at a hotel and proceeds to punish her.
Mary Ellen did have a good excuse for stealing from him and she was intending to pay him back. (Just saying)
“Bound to her Billionaire” is about her being in debt to him and unable to say no because of the consequences of going to jail and nobody to look after her daughter.
NATASHA How would you describe yourself and your personality? And are you like any of the characters that you write about?
LUCY: I like to laugh and have fun, but I am also an introvert. I like nothing better than escaping to my computer and disappearing into a story, either reading or writing. I am nearly 44 years old and I am starting to notice a lot more wrinkles and grey hairs. Thank god for hair dye. I don’t cope well when I am hungry, I get hanger, hungry anger! My writing diet use to consist of coffee and corn chips, it was not the best choices so I am trying to eat better (corn chips at 5am are not good). I drink cocoa now which is fantastic, it gives the burst of energy without the lows, everyone should try it.
I think the feisty side of some of my leading ladies come from me, I don’t like taking orders, I’m a bit rebellious that way.
NATASHA: How does your family feel about you writing erotica?
LUCY: My daughter was the one who encourage me, she was the only one who knew for a while. Now most of my family know. My son even wants to help me with my marketing and website, he just doesn’t want to read them. They have all been really great about it.
NATASHA: What other genres do you write or would like to write besides erotica?
LUCY: I am writing a paranormal series set in an apocalyptic world. It has angels and other paranormal creatures in it.
I have written a few fantasy erotica’s and would love to write a big epic story. I also love historical, so don’t be surprised if a few historical erotica’s pop up in my book list.
NATASHA: Can you share with us anything you are currently working on, and/or any new releases?
LUCY: I have four more stories that hopefully will be up before the end of the year. ‘Hathor the Hucow’, its set in ancient Egypt with the goddess Hathor, A taboo stepdaddy book, A Virgin bride in the wild west and another fantasy dragon shifter book. They are with editors and we are working on covers now.
