NATASHA: Hi Lacey! Thank you for the interview. Can you tell our readers about yourself and how you got started as a writer?
LACEY: Hi Natasha! Thanks so much for having me here. I’ve been a published writer for twenty years. Wow, every time I say (or write) that I’m amazed. I’ve been doing this a long time. LOL I was always an avid reader and once my mother handed me Star, the first book I’d ever read by Danielle Steele. I knew I wanted to tell stories. Or at least I told myself I could write stories and have my characters doing different things than I read in books. So, I kept reading and wrote stories and plays that remained in piles in the back of my closet. It never occurred to me, until much later in life, that I could actually publish those stories.
NATASHA: What genre do you enjoy writing as an author?
LACEY: Lacey Baker is my pseudonym. I also write contemporary and paranormal romance under my real name, A.C. Arthur. I love writing romantic suspense.
NATASHA: Let’s talk about “Her Unexpected Match” Can tell our readers a little about the story and what inspired you to write this story?
LACEY: Her Unexpected Match is book#1 in the Crescent Matchmaker series. It’s a slow burn romance about Allie Sparks, a cynical travel blogger who needs to write a positive article about Crescent Island or she’ll lose her job. Ryan Parker is Allie’s best friend’s brother whose dog, Optimus, collides with Allie moments after she arrives on the island. Neither Allie nor Ryan is looking for love, but the Crescent Matchmaker has other plans for them. I was inspired to write this story by my visiting some of my favorite places in my home state of Maryland. I love the small town feel of the coastal towns on Maryland’s Eastern Shore and always enjoy creating fictional characters and places based off that area.
NATASHA: Are the characters that you write about inspired by real people?
LACEY: Not all the time. There may be some personality traits that I pick up from other people I know or characters I see on television or movies, that I’ll incorporate. But, for the most part, they’re fictional.
NATASHA: When you were a child, what did you want to be when you were growing up?
LACEY: As a child I knew that my parents dropped my brothers and I off at my aunt’s house so we could go to school in the morning and then they went to work. Then, after work they came to pick us up. I also knew that my mother worked at a desk so my originally plan was to work at a desk like my mother. As I grew older, I took business courses in high school and then in college, so that I was prepared to go out and get me a desk job. LOL That eventually shifted to me getting a paralegal degree and then beginning my writing career.
NATASHA: What writing advice would you give to your younger self?
LACEY: To be patient. All the things you didn’t know before, you eventually learned.
NATASHA: Besides writing, what do you enjoy doing on your spare time to relax?
LACEY: Reading and crafting (making T-shirts, bags and other stuff). These are both good stress relievers for me so I lean on them often.
NATASHA: How can readers learn more about you online?
LACEY: I try to be active on as much social media as I can. My website is laceybakerromance.com and I’m on Twitter (@laceybakerbook), Facebook (@laceybakerromance), Tik Tok (@laceybakerbooks) and Instagram (@laceybakerbooks)
